REVERSE TRANSFER
What is Reverse transfer?
Reverse Transfer is a process where academic credits for course work completed at the Georgia State Atlanta campus are used to satisfy associate degree requirements for students that previously took classes at the Georgia State Perimeter campus. Please see further down for eligibility requirements.
Some students transition to the Georgia State Atlanta campus prior to completing their associate degree at the Perimeter campus, with a percentage of this group gaining a bachelor’s degree eventually through a combination of credits from both institutions. Through Reverse Transfer, a student’s achievements are recognized with an associate degree after they have transitioned to the Atlanta campus and have accumulated the credits needed to fulfill the 2-year degree program requirements. Its value added to your education.
What are the benefits of earning your Associate Degree?
The associate degree is a marketable credential for your résumé and an important milestone in your education. Employers value the associate degree as evidence of your commitment to expanding your knowledge and achieving your educational goals. The associate degree can make a difference in your long-term success:
- An associate degree can provide better job opportunities while completing your bachelor degree.
- The associate degree is the nation’s fastest growing work credential; employers recognize its value when recruiting and hiring.
- Students who earn an associate degree are more likely to complete their bachelor degree.
- There is no risk to you – even though you are applying the hours you have earned at the Georgia State Atlanta campus toward an associate degree, your hours earned will still apply toward your undergraduate degree.
- The number one reason is, that you may have already earned an associate degree.
Who is eligible?
- Students that have started at any Georgia State Perimeter campus and are now attending the Atlanta campus.

How do students earn a Reverse Transfer degree?
- Run your academic evaluation and check to see if you are finished or close to graduating. You will look to see if your core curriculum and Area F are completed or close to completion.
- Great news, there is no graduation fee to pay and you don’t have to complete an application.
- If you said "Yes" on your transition application to the question "Do you agree to have an associate degree awarded if you have earned it", you are all set.
- If you answered "No" or "N/A", email us at [email protected] and tell us “Yes” you want your associate degree. Please include your panther number in your email.
- The Reverse Transfer team will review your records and send you an email and let you know your status.
- The team will provide any feedback if any course work is missing or still needed.
- If you are cleared to graduate, sit back and wait for the end of the semester to officially earn your degree.
Reverse Transfer
This does not disrupt your pursuit for your bachelor’s degree.
This does not affect your HOPE scholarship (they pay for your first bachelor’s degree, not just first degree).
This does not affect your financial aid while attending the Atlanta campus.
Students are only eligible to be awarded one Associate of Arts and one Associate of Science degrees.
- If you are currently pursuing a degree downtown that did not match your pathway at GSU Perimeter Campus, we have several options.
- First, we will try and match your new major with a GSU Perimeter pathway. Example if you were a Computer Science Pathway and now downtown you are working on a Business degree, we can still award you an associate degree in Business Administration if you meet the qualifications.
- Second, if we can not match up a pathway with your current major downtown, an Associate of General Studies will be awarded.
Diplomas will be mailed 8-10 weeks after graduation conferral. This typically happens about 2 weeks after a semester has ended. Make sure your mailing address is up to date.
Associate degree diplomas will only state Associate of Arts or Associate of Science. They will not specifically state the pathway you were pursuing. That will only be on your official transcript.
Unfortunately, at this time, attendance at the Georgia State Perimeter campus is required since the downtown campus is not eligible to award associate degrees. You can speak with your academic advisor for further details.
Not a problem! You will still be reviewed and cleared for graduation as normal. If you have any courses from the Atlanta campus that will assist in completing your associate degree, they will still apply towards graduation.
Unfortunately, at this time, attendance at the Georgia State Perimeter campus is required since the downtown campus is not eligible to award associate degrees. You can speak with your academic advisor for further details if you previously attended Perimeter Campus or are interested in transitioning to that campus to complete your associate degree.
